James Curran

James Curran, one of Scotland’s leading environmental scientists, and his wife Artemis, a child psychologist, decided last year to change their careers and invest their savings in a new retail outlet called Entrading selling environmental goods. James had been deeply concerned about climate change for years and felt that it was not enough just to talk about it - even from his professional position as Head of Science at the Scottish Environment Protection Agency. The couple have pursued their vision, despite the commercial risk, seeing it as another way of reflecting James’ dedication to environmental protection and enabling the consumer to choose a more environmentally-friendly lifestyle.

All Entrading’s fixtures and fittings have been chosen to cause minimum impact on the environment, including second-hand tables, sustainable rubber flooring and biomass stove. Located on the corner of West Regent Street and Hope Street in the centre of Glasgow, the intention is to ‘mainstream’ green choices. The range of goods aims to offer choice with style and has a much broader appeal that just to eco-conscience customers. It aims to be, as far as possible, a one-stop-shop for environmental goods, from building materials and paints to clothes and gifts, and is unique in Scotland, if not in the UK.
